Cool Book and other random things

For Christmas I received the Intellectual Devotional. "[D]aily readings that will refresh the spirit, stimulate the mind, and help complete your education." It is a very interesting read each night before I go to bed. Each day of the week is assigned a topic...history, literature, visual arts, science, music, philosophy and religion. I suggest it for anyone who wants to get in the habit of reading something daily.

Onto the weather. So this week has been freak weather for Southern California. Yesterday there was snow in Malibu. And many of the people had to hose off their cars before driving to work because of the ice. I do have to admit that it has been nice since I am used to at least semi winter weather. But I was jealous of all the people at Southwestern because they had snow and probably more than we had when I was there. I really wasn't jealous of not having school because we don't have to make up weather days. That was always the worst.

This week I found out that I will no longer be teaching math starting at the semester. As I said in my I'm back post, I will be teaching parenting/ relationships. I sort of have a problem with this because I will only be teaching 2 periods a day and then probably doing secretarial work the rest of the day. I sort of feel that this is a waste. No offense to all the secretaries out there, it is hard work. But secretarial work really isn't the reason I am out here.
Another piece of big news is that I got a couch! There had been a couch in the hallway for awhile that the store was trying to sell. It looks like it is from the 70s or 80s. But I got news that my MIRYAP will be coming to California in February so I decided to get the couch. It is great for several reasons. *I have a place to sit now other than my bed which I realized was becoming a bad habit. *I can now maybe have visitors. *I got rid of my table, as it was really just a junk and dust collector. And while I did sit there to eat, I faced the TV because the table faced the wall. *The couch has a pull out bed. *I went and bought some of those jersey sheets so I can have sheets for the bed and put one of them over it so the couch will look presentable and it reminds me of my own couch that now resides in Corpus. *The best thing is that the couch was FREE!!!
I must say in reference to my last post about basketball, I am very glad that I don't have FSN because Arizona has been playing dismally and on Saturday UA plays #2 UCLA. The good thing is that ASU almost beat them, so maybe we have a chance, but to me it seems that we peaked to early in the season. Hopefully we can have another peak before March.
grace and peace
