Since my last post, I have actually acted like a tourist. This past weekend my US2 supervisor, Lauren, was in town. Monday I did not have school, so we acted like tourists and went to Hollywood. I took a few pictures, but I am waiting for Peter to come out here to really act like a tourist and go picture crazy.
That paragraph was written about a week ago. I can't say that I have been too busy to write a new post because I haven't. But here we go.
Last Saturday I had a very nice conversation with Emily, a US2 classmate. And on Sunday I talked to Adam, another classmate. It was really nice to get back in touch with my classmates. Together, I talked to them for about 3.5 hours, which is actually a long time to be on the phone! But it was good to hear what is going on outside of California.
The past two weeks have actually been nice because we had both Mondays off for holidays. This past Monday I was invited to have breakfast with a couple of the ladies I work with and some old colleagues of thiers. I must admit I had a lot of fun. It was nice to meet new people. That night I went to the Annual Gala for Progressive Christians Uniting. The guest speaker was Marcus Borg, a very well know theologian. Although my companions did not enjoy his talk, I did. He gave us points to think about without telling us to do things and then not giving us examples of how to help the world or people. The first few sentences were talking about books to read if we wanted more help and the first book he mentioned was Diana Butler Bass' Christianity for the Rest of Us, How the Neighborhood Church Is Transforming the Faith. I thought that was interesting because my mom is reading that book at the present and that was the second time I was told to read the book in about a week.
Tuesday the youth at church had a pancake dinner for Shrove Tuesday, but also as a fundraiser for the annual service project. So the young adult group went to that rather than have group.
Wednesday night I was asked to read the scripture for the Ash Wednesday service. I don't think I have ever read so many verses, but it was nice to do something at church other than just sit in the pew.
This past week at school, I have taken on helping with School Liaison. I must admit it has kept me busier, but I am still really only working about 4 hours a day. Which is not good. I was informed today that we will be combining my two relationship classes. This is good and bad. Good because that means I will be able to have class everyday. The problem with having only three students in one class is that when two of them are missing, it is really hard to have class with only one student. And that situation has happened about 6 out of the last 9 class periods. Some people might think that having a small class is good, but I am here to tell you it really stinks! The bad part about only having one class period, is that I now am down to only teaching 1 period of the day. And that takes me down to about 3 hours of actual work a day.
So I ask you to please continue to keep me in your prayers/thoughts. The meeting with Lauren and my supervisors at David and Margaret went ok. I was given suggestions on what to do and was given the school liaison job for the full time public school girls, but that really hasn't panned out. So just please pray that what is right for me and the girls will be figured out.
I think that is all for now. One thing totally not related...I am getting very excited about the NCAA tournament coming up, even though Arizona is not doing as well as I had hoped. It gives me something to look forward to.
